○ The 2016 Hwasun International Vaccine Forum was held for two days from June 10th to 11th in Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex in South Korea, bringing together experts from vaccine research organizations, companies, governments and international organizations around the world.
○ The Forum was hosted under the theme “Eradication of Diseases through Vaccination” with around ten distinguished speakers from the vaccine industry, including Dr. Rolf M. Zinkernagel, the winner of Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1996 and professor of Experimental Immunology at the University of Zurich, Dr. Margaret Liu, President of International Society for Vaccines, Dr. Jerome Kim, Director General of International Vaccine Institute, Dr. Peter Khoury, Senior Program Officer for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Dr. Myron Levine, Director of the Center for Vaccine Development of the University of Maryland.

The Forum hosted in the Lecture Hall of the Hwasun Hanium Culture & Sports Center
○ The Forum identified and discussed current challenges in vaccine development, vaccines in the pipeline such as DNA vaccine and orally administered vaccines, the international ethics of vaccine development with regard to epidemics such as Zika virus disease, and national vaccine policies of South Korea, thereby giving implications to all areas of vaccine from research, international coordination to government policies.

○ Dr. Joon Haeng RHEE, Professor of Chonnam University and organizer of the Forum, remarked “The Forum has drawn not only local specialists but also international experts in the area of vaccine for the first time in Asia, testifying to the potential of the Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex. We will make utmost efforts to ensure that Hwasun, building on the fruits of the Hwasun International Vaccine Forum, will become the heart of Korea’s vaccine industry, and ultimately an international pivot for the global vaccine industry.”
○ The Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex, the venue of the Forum, is the only vaccine industrial complex in South Korea, in which Cheonnam National University Hwasun Hospital, Green Cross Corp Hwasun Plant, Biopharmaceutical Research Center of Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation and Korea Testing & Research Institute are located.
